Household UHF Aerials

Selecting the right aerial for your area and signal requirements can be difficult. There are various types of aerials available.

Aerials for digital reception

Digital TV Transmissions use the same UHF channel numbers (21-68) as analogue TV. However, due to planning issues, some new digital transmitters broadcast a wider range of channels than those currently used for analogue broadcasts.

UHF Aerial

In the future, when the digital switchover is underway, the UHF channel numbers used by certain transmitters may change. Although there are no detail plans at present the BBC recommends a use of CAI benchmarked wideband aerials (colour coded black) if you are replacing your exsisting equipment or need to upgrade it in order to recieve Freeview. As mentioned before, these do not have as much gain as a grouped aerial so a slightly larger aerial (High-gain) may be needed. This should cover your present aerial requirements as well as those in the future.

UHF AerialFREEVIEW is a free digital TV service. Offering over 30 TV channels and 20 radio stations for just a one-off payment (set top box if required) and no contract. If you have a intergrated digital television (IDTV) you do not need a set top box. FREEVIEW is recieved through a normal rooftop aerial. An aerial upgrade may be required as described above.
